It gets better

Forty years ago, LGBT bookstore openings were an event. They were few and far between, and had to struggle to find books out of what was still a largely underground publishing niche.

Happily, things have changed, although, electronic buying has now made the LGBT niche in bookselling almosts extinct. The Advocate has a list of the best thirty LGBT books of last year here. It's worth a read.
