Book of the Day: An Eye for Detail

Feher, Gyorgy, and Szunyoghy, Andras, Cyclopedia Anatomicae (Black Dog & Leventhal, 1st ed., 1st printing, 1996). ISBN 1-884822-87-8. A 602 pp. compilation of the art of anatomical drawing of humans and animals, with some 1500 illustrations.


Feher (1939-2002) was a highly regarded Hungarian screenwriter, actor and director in the twilight of Communism; a 1998 film was nominated for Best Picture at Cannes. Illustrator Andras Szunyoghy (1946- ) was trained in large animal taxidermy at the Budapest Academy of Fine Art, then moved into banknote design. He published his first anatomical illustration book in 1989, and have worked primarily in that arena since, with detours into postage stamp design for Hungary, Mongolia and Yemen.
