In 1842, the publication of a new book on sleep disorders caused a furore in England.

Not for its content, which was reviewed as being eccentric and sleep-inducing in its own right, but for the fact the text had been entirely set by machine.

The piantoype was, apparently, do easy to use even a woman could do it. Within fifty years handset type had become a relic of the past.
