Birthday Book of the Day: “I still occasionally need to struggle but I now fear it less. The weapons I fight it with are also my consolations: books, music, food, wine, nature.”

Today is the 96th birthday of the UK author P.D. James (1920-2014), best known for the series of crime novels featuring Detective Inspector Adam Dalgliesh, as well as her triumphant 90th-year recasting of Jane Austen’s Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy in Death Comes to Pemberley.
