Lyndon Johnson, 36th President of the United States, was born on this day in 1908. A popular field among collectors is that of presidential memoirs, we note President Johnson’s birthday with a copy of his 1971 memoir:

Johnson, Lyndon B., The Vantage Point: Perspectives of the Presidency 1963-1969 (Holt Rinehart & Winston, 1st ed. 1971). ISBN 0-03-084492-4. A look at his presidency by one of the most consequential holders of it in the 20th century. Johnson’s four-year post-presidency was a spring to have as close to a last word as he could on his legacy: his first book, The Choice We Face, appeared just two months after he left office. His massive presidential library and this book debuted in 1971. In 1972 he cause a stir by selling two interviews with CBS’ Walter Cronkite for $300,000; it was one of the earliest examples of what came to be known as “checkbook journalism.”

Octavo, unclipped dust jacket, some ordinary shelfwear about the edges of the dust jacket. Very condition otherwise. Red cloth boards, blue title tab on spine, and rectangular cover tab bearing a facsimile of the President’s signature. Octavo, 636 pp. HBB price: $30.
